Premier League clubs plan reciprocal £30 away tickets... even if Arsenal, Manchester United and Co continue to oppose price cap

By CHARLES SALE FOR THE DAILY MAIL

PUBLISHED: 22:37, 5 February 2016 | UPDATED: 14:27, 6 February 2016

The majority of clubs in the Premier League are planning to introduce a proposed £30 cap on tickets for away fans next season even if the top flight fails to make it mandatory.

Another vote is expected at the next summit of Premier League clubs in March after at least seven teams — Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea and West Ham — opposed the cap this week.

The mood of the other clubs is to carry on regardless by having £30 reciprocal agreements with all like-minded clubs.

Such a breakaway initiative, discussed at the Premier League clubs meeting this week, would help to further expose the greedy seven or eight who don't want to drop prices — even with £8.1billion of TV cash coming in.

A Premier League source said: 'All the clubs are in favour of helping the away fans. The big difficulty is finding a consensus on how this is done.'

An Arsenal spokesman said: 'We believe the best way of helping travelling supporters is with their travel.'

I can imagine that people will pay a premium to see the Olympic stadium next year and it should sell most away allocations so why would they want to cap it to £30 a ticket, when they could get £50+

To reward those that spend shit load travelling all over the country to watch the club they own, perhaps?

Kind of agree with Arsenal opinion. Travel is the big variable: why would you discount tickets for people travelling from around London to the OS? Or Sunderland/Boro fans to St. James Park?

Price banding may be? Ten quid discount for the midlands/Sth coast teams......15 quid for the NW, 20 quid for the NE. Club specific discounts rather than across the board.

I thought we did something like this with some clubs already. Tickets for Newcastle the other week were only £25

If the revenue per game for ticket sales is GBP1m and the majority comes from home supporters why would GBP10-20 make a massive difference for sales to away supporters? GBP10x5000=GBP50,000. Pays a week for Jenkinson, so nothing.

relieve the financial pressure on travel costs, surely? Each away game has to cost GBP150/supporter?

Relieve travel costs how? I drive to a lot of away games, will they reimburse me my petrol costs? Of course not.

A lot (Me included) prefer them to knock the price off matchday tickets, as they've done again with Chelsea away.

Something needs to be done though. Liverpool fans moaning at £77 tickets that they're not even being charged yet. We've been charged up to £95 since the start of the season!

What do you suggest West Ham do to help the cost of travel then?

EVERYONE MUST BEND OVER BACKWARDS FOR THE AWAY FANS - THEY ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD AND MUST BE LOOKED AFTER AT ALL COSTS EVEN IF ITS TO THE DETRIMENT OF THE CLUB.

The article by Hugh Southon you mean? Funny that.

Everything else I have read have had us down as being against.

Put it to the vote.

Q. Do you think BERKS Inc would have voted for or against the cap on away ticket prices:

A1. For
A2. Against

See what the WHO public think.

I could handle £45 tickets plus if trains were cut or assisted by clubs. Looking at £80 plus for most games up north.

Eddie... to be fair I thought it was a pile of jackanory shit.... I mean come on??

"Even if a ticket is £32, we’re told to think it’s good value. It isn’t. That’s still too expensive and anyone who thinks it isn’t has drank too deep from football’s propaganda smoothie. Premier League football should be £5 – £15 for all regular tickets".

Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!

Lay of the propaganda smoothies Sold. A ticket should be the price of 3 pints, a cinema ticket or a Streatham brass.
£15 is about right.
